Five traditional oils for scalp and strands
Our Hair Oil brings together sacha inchi, black seed, rice bran, argan and castor oils, with a touch of essential oils. These are long time favorites in scalp care and in routines for full, healthy looking hair. Use it as a weekly scalp ritual, or smooth a single drop through dry ends to calm frizz. There are no silicones, no mineral oil and no synthetic fragrance, so what you put on your scalp is only what is listed.
A closer look at each oil
Sacha inchi oil
Pressed from the seeds of a Peruvian plant, sacha inchi is light and rich in fatty acids. Our guide to sacha inchi and rice bran oil for hair covers why both are gaining attention.
Black seed oil
Black seed oil from Nigella sativa has a long history in traditional hair care. It helps the scalp feel comfortable and cared for.
Rice bran oil
Rice bran oil is light and silky, and helps hair look smooth and glossy without feeling greasy.
Argan oil
Argan oil is a classic for softness and shine, especially on dry ends.
Castor oil
Castor oil is thick and glossy, and helps hair look fuller and well conditioned.
What we leave out
- No cyclic silicones, the common base of many hair serums, which can build up on hair.
- No mineral oil.
- No synthetic fragrance and no parabens.
Who it is for
Hair Oil suits anyone with a dry feeling scalp, dry or frizzy ends, or hair that looks dull, and people who want to replace silicone serums with plant oils. It works on straight, wavy, curly and coily hair; just adjust the amount. If you notice sudden or patchy hair loss, see a doctor or dermatologist, since that can have many causes.
How to get the most from it
For a scalp ritual, part your hair in sections and apply a few drops directly to the scalp. Massage gently with your fingertips for a few minutes, which feels wonderful and helps spread the oil evenly. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight with an old pillowcase, then wash out. Shampooing twice can help remove all the oil. For ends, warm one drop between your palms and smooth it over dry or damp hair. Start with less than you think; you can always add more. Our guide to non toxic hair care has more ideas for a simple routine.
Questions about Hair Oil
How often should I oil my scalp?
Once or twice a week works well for most people. Apply a few drops to the scalp, massage, leave on for at least 30 minutes or overnight, then shampoo. If your scalp is oily, start once a week. If it feels dry, you can try twice.
Can hair oil make hair look thicker?
A good hair oil can condition the scalp, help hair look shinier and fuller, and reduce the dry, frizzy look that comes with breakage. If you are concerned about hair loss, a doctor or dermatologist can look for the cause.
Should I put hair oil on wet or dry hair?
Both work. On damp hair, a drop helps smooth strands as they dry. On dry hair, it calms frizz and adds shine. For a pre wash scalp ritual, apply to dry hair and scalp before washing so the oil has time to sit.
Can I leave hair oil in overnight?
Yes. Many people apply oil to the scalp in the evening and wash it out in the morning. Cover your pillow with a towel or old pillowcase, and shampoo well the next day. Shampooing twice helps remove heavier oils like castor.
